The flights got delayed. One of the flights got delayed without a notice in advance.
They left my luggages at SeaTac. I am at China right now, and I don’t know when they are going send them to me. All my stuff in the luggage now I have buy everything again.
Flew business class. Cabin crew was some of the most attentive I have experienced. Food was very good and nicely presented. Pillows could be better, but had two. Same with blankets. One thick and puffy, the other lighter. Nice for temperature regulation.
First leg lax - Tao delayed almost 3 hours. Fortunately the 2nd leg was delayed 1.5 hours. 3rd leg on this itinerary was also delayed, I could have made the flight, but they gave my seat away. It was a bit of a Charlie Foxtrot rearranging flights and overnighting Hotel. 2.5 hours. A supervisor was needed to sort it all out. We will see if the above was bad circumstances or not. I run the same itinerary in reverse on the way home in a week.
Xiamen reps at KUL didn’t let me board because they said my middle name on boarding pass didn’t match with the name on Chinese transit visa. I got this Chinese transit visa just to transfer because of the airport layout and that part was also didn’t make sense. They didn’t accept my middle “Y” on the boarding pass and it was so much of hassle to argue and finally let me through. Will never fly again on Xiamen.
Nothing. I was sent to two long layovers in China and was told they were too long for them to take me without a visa for China. I was not told I needed one for any layover. I had to purchase a ticket on another site to get home or be stranded in Manila. Kayak doesn't have a customer service number to fix this.
I thought the service, efficiency and kindness of the staff was top notch. They made the flight really enjoyable. Hainan does a lot to make sure you feel like you are getting a high quality experience even while flying economy.
I notice a few things around my seat that were kind of broken, which was surprising knowing that this was a new Dreamliner ... I thought certain things would not be as worn yet. Though I am sure it gets a tons of abuse! I also thought the food was sub-par and we always had a really hard time hearing any announcements because they were not clear, loud and English was challenging to decipher.

Great juices. We really enjoyed the mango juice and coconut juice. The raw vegetable and fruit meal was good. We added humus to it and that added to the taste.
Didn't appreciate the fumigation of the cabin. Maybe add humus or guacamole to the raw vegetable or fruit platter.
Not knowing much about this airline, I was pleasantly surprised with the short flight from Edinburgh to Dublin. Sorry all you plane geeks, I don't know what model aircraft it was, but I was seated in the middle of a 2-3-2 arrangement. Boarding was speedy, staff pleasant and even offered a sandwich in the short hop. Seats were comfortable and being early on a Saturday morning, it was not fully packed. This meant that getting off was not a chore. I'd definitely use them again and wouldn't hesitate in recommending you use them for the sort flight like I made.
The only issue that marks them down was the lack of on line check in for the flight (Edinburgh to Dublin). Despite that, checking in via a traditional route was efficient and done with a smile.
