Friendly staff, nice cabin, good movie selection
It was my worst flight , I had arrived at the airport at 5h 30 am and the boarding was at 11am ,
Flight was overbooked. Had an issue getting my ticket 2.5 hours prior to schedule flight departure. Flight was originally scheduled to leave at 4:30. It was first delayed to 8:50 p.m. Then further delayed to 10:00 p.m. Plane left Casablanca much later than 10:00 p.m. which caused a very late arrival to IAD airport, 2:30 a.m. Boarding was a disaster. Stayed in line for over an hour not knowing if the plane was going to take off from Casablanca. No water was distributed and no communication was shared with the passengers until the crew announced boarding.
The lack of communication about my flight being delayed 10 hours after arriving at the airport at 3am. Then when we finally left I was not informed of the 25 hour layover in Morocco and I did not have anything with me for an overnight trip. The airlines did not consider this and refused to allow me to get my luggage. By the time I got to my hotel after being given the run around for 2 hours, all of the stores were closed for me to purchase toiletries and the room had no towels. The meal the hotel offered was not edible and I had to purchase food on my own. I was originally suppose to land in NYC Saturday at 6:30pm, but if all goes as planned I will arrive in NYC Monday morning at 1:30am. The staff with this airline was not helpful, very rude, and one of the staff told me it was my problem that I could not get to the hotel they assigned to me.
The staff was very emphatetic to our situation as we were traveling with the groom for his wedding. They tried all they could but unfortunately due to the lack of operational control, were unable to get us to our destination on time. Provided us with vouchers and free stay.
With little to no explanation, our flight was delayed nearly 4 hours which caused to miss our connecting flight to Egypt. Apparently, there was only one plane in floatation. We missed our connecting flight, next flight was the next day at 9 pm as they only have one flight that goes to Egypt daily. Would not suggest this airline if you need to meet certain deadlines. They compensate with food and vouchers but that isn’t sufficient when you need to ensure your on time for a wedding!
Ceiba has no intention of departing Malabo on the times in their schedule. I should have had 90 minutes to make a connecting flight if we had departed at 7am, the published time. They had three flights all scheduled for 7am departure, loading them all through the same gate, one at-a-time. We didn't start boarding my flight till 7:45 and plane didn't depart until after 8 - more than an hour late. By the time I was off the plane in Douala, my flight to Lagos (ASKY AIR) was gone. There were no difficulties or problems to over-come, it is their expectation. The Embassy driver who took me to the airport told me matter-of-factly we would not depart on-time - he worked there for 5 years before becoming a Motor Pool Driver. He was right So I got to Doulala and was told by ASKY that I was a "no-show", would need to pay a penalty and next flight was the next day. I don't speak French, so I am not sure what the not very courteous or concerned representative was saying, but the other people seemed to be enjoying some fun she was having at my expense. I got an Expediter from US Embassy involved (2 hours later). I got to spend quality time in a cramped little office with 3 chairs and an enormous colleague of hers snoring louder than anyone I have ever heard in my life. Apparently he was involved somehow, although it is not evident he did anything to resolve the situation.Suddenly they seemed interested in paying the penalty, getting me ticketed and even put me up in a really crappy "hotel" with no electricity for hours. I got to stay up all night scratching mosquito bites - oh yeah, they usually "bomb" the rooms before you turn in, but didn't want to bother me. I will not be flying Ceiba again - it is what you should expect from a government-owned company in a dictatorship.
Although we had abou an hour delay, we arrived only thirty minutes after the scheduled time. The flight crew was very nice and friendly.
The touchscreen did not work very well; was only able I o see one movie but is was an overnight flight so it wasn’t too much at a hassle.
My reservation seat was suddenly changed with no notification and apologise. It was really confusing situation.

Old flight - equipments were not in order like the handrest was broken, TV’s were broken and not functioning, touch screens failed to react to touch, signs on buttons at the handrest were smudged. 3 out of 6 washrooms in Economy class were not working. At one instance I was locked in the washroom as the door was not opening from inside, until I had to call the attendant. Entertainment options were limited. Food was below average. In one of my meals I got opened and melted butter. Cabin crew was not responding to the calls when I needed water. I finally got it after ringing 4 bells and 45 minutes. Overall, a terrible experience and would not choose to fly with Ethiopian again.
The boarding was superb.
