Ventajas: Our family had a enjoyable true Japanese Ryokan experience staying here for 2 nights. The staff and the hotel were fabulous and the food gave the family a traditional Japanese experience. We had breakfast and dinner at the hotel. We travelled via hire car to Kakunodate which was really fabulous - an absolute must.

Ventajas: Staff was very personable, friendly and welcoming. The food was great, and the area is great to travel around for one or two day trips.

Ventajas: The ryokan itself was elegant and super clean. I loved the dinner! It was beautifully prepared and tasty, and was even better than some nation-wide renowned hotel's Kaiseki dinner. Staff was helpful and kind. I dropped my JR tickets in the room and the staff even drove to Morioka station and gave them back to me! Recommend it to anyone who wants to experience a traditionally styled and authentic Japanese ryokan. It's not that expensive when you think about your two meals are included.

8,8 Excelente
Ventajas: Food was amazing! Enjoyed tasting the local cuisine. Sebastian was very helpful and answered any questions I had. Tatami room was very comfortable.
Desventajas: Price is expensive. During the winter, there are few outside-activity options. Transportation from the station can be confusing (wasn't sure which side of the station to wait for pickup).

Ventajas: We want to give Oushuku Onsen Choeikan high praise because they contributed to my husband and I having a wonderful three night stay celebrating a special occasion. The property was very quiet, relaxed, and had an air of dignity about it. It is located in a beautiful narrow river valley with densely forested mountains on both sides. The sound of birdsong and running water, which could be heard from our bedroom window, was so peaceful and relaxing. Our standard twin room with its mountain view was spacious and well-equipped - probably the most pleasant room that we have stayed in while in Japan. Breakfasts and dinners at the ryokan were superb, with lots of tasty Japanese vegetables, meat and seafood - really more than we could eat, and beautifully presented. Our host, Sebastien, was very charming and attentive to all our needs, making sure that we had explanations for everything related to our stay. We could not fault the service anywhere, from front desk to restaurants, to coffee shop. There is a choice of three onsens each for males and for females. I enjoyed a very therapeutic massage in our room as part of the optional services. The ryokan is well located for day trips to places of interest, but relaxing enough to just enjoy without going out anywhere else. There is a pretty waterfall an easy walk away, and an ashiyu (footspa) overlooking the river just up the road - a great spot to just enjoy the views, read a book, or chat with a friend while enjoying the benefits of the hot mineral spring water. We would thoroughly recommend Choeikan to anyone looking for a special break away in a beautiful part of Japan.
Desventajas: Choeikan is located in a place of great natural beauty but, as is the case with many small Japanese onsen towns, the neighbouring buildings are now looking rather tired, shabby, and run down. Local shops are no longer open and it is necessary to drive to find convenience stores, other amenities, lunch etc. (There is, however, a gift shop inside Choeikan as well as drink vending machines). If arriving by car, do not rely on Google maps to direct you to the front door of the ryokan. You will be led to the rear of the building and it can be a bit confusing when you then have to go back and cross over to the other side of the river in order to reach the front entrance! Two small complaints are that 1. sometimes the hot water in the bathroom took about five minutes after turning on the taps to come through in our 4th floor room. When it finally did, the temperature and flow was fine. 2. The carpet in some of the hallways was wearing dangerously thin in places and loose threads could cause someone to trip. Perhaps this is already on the ryokan’s list of ongoing maintenance issues.

Ventajas: The staff, the rooms, and the baths were outstanding. The Japanese style room was large with a great sitting area and table. The staff was super helpful, even with their minimal English and my miniscule Japanese were had no problems. The bath were hot. They apologized because the weather had been very hot, which raised the bath water temp. There was even a bar in the lobby with beer on tap and local bottled beer. It was open from 3:00 pm-6:00 pm.
Desventajas: The only concern would be the thread-bare carpets. They looked shabby, but the shabbiness ended at the room door. The food was very good, if a little different than most Japanese meals that I have had. It is perhaps more traditional moutain-people food. Great place, though.
9,5 Excelente
Ventajas: Nice room with twin beds, excellent onsen and good food which was different on each of the three nights Also great to have an English speaking person at reception and at the beginning of dinner as well as a kaiseki menu in English.
Desventajas: No internet on our floor and even though we had our own remote modem, the internet was very, very slow. Must be in a poor signal area. Also would have liked one or two Western breakfast choices such as cereal.
8,0 Excelente

Ventajas: Shuttle service from Shizukuishi Station and probably the most excellent onsen hotel that I have ever visited with the same value of money. Special thanks to Sebastian for providing us useful information in English.
Desventajas: Nothing

Ventajas: Very quiet location
Desventajas: No WIFI in the room
8,8 Excelente
Ventajas: The onsen was very big and clean. The food on the first day was absolutely delicious.
Desventajas: I think if one is searching for Japanese hospitality you will definitely get it from this hotel. There is a French staff there that spoke English - however he likely lacks some Japanese hospitality for example he entered the elevator first, did not offer to hold any baggage, did not open or hold the elevator door for us .... these are normal if you are in Europe travelling but in japan it is rare to see such European hospitality in a Japanese ryokan setting.... although it is likely happening more now as ryokans are hiring note foreigners..... it’s a shame to dilute the Japanese hospitality....

Ventajas: Great staff, particularly Sebastian who explained everything to us, especially helpful at dinner. Japanese experience, good food and large, quiet onsen. Free sake after dinner!
Desventajas: Nothing

Ventajas: The hotel is in very good shape. It is not new, but it is kept very well up to date, including all the public spaces. The dinner (kaiseki) served is of very high quality. I also liked the breakfast. During my stay one member of the staff was French, so communicating in English was not a problem at all. The free shuttle to the JR station (Akita Shinkansen) is a great service. Note that not all trains stop at that station.
Desventajas: I wish that the men and women hot springs would alternate every day, so I could use both facilities. Other than that, I can't think of any other complaints.

Ventajas: The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I went in the off-season so prices were reasonable. The hotel is situated at the foot of a mountain and is very much in the countryside. I chose this hotel because I wanted to get away from it all and I was able to do that. I am thinking about going back in winter for the snow season.

Ventajas: Value for money. Nice hotel with half-board at a decent price. It is a ski resort hotel and prices are attractive in summer.
Desventajas: Hotel is a bit off the town area (it is in the midst of padi fields actually). It also looks older than in the pictures.
9,5 Excelente
Ventajas: The hotel is situated quite away from Morioka and somewhat difficult to reach. We hired a car . Once you reach it it is well worth the effort. lovely large rooms with outstanding views over the snow capped mountains The dinner and breakfast were not cheap but the quality and array of food was excellent. There are hot spring fed baths with large fish swimming very close nearby. There is a first rate golf course next to the hotel A lovely experience well worth the effort

Ventajas: The onzen is very pleasant and the room was big and confortable.
Desventajas: The breakfast was very extensive 2000 yens for one people for cold food and only industrial food . The breakfast was served in a too big room.

Ventajas: We stayed three nights and everyone has big smile for me. One time, I missed the return time of ski suits, and desk is already closed. But, lobby's employee helps us to finish all return process even he hard to speak english. Here has very beautiful view and good hot pool. However, some electronic equipments are to old too use.
Desventajas: No much choice for restaurant.
8,8 Excelente
Ventajas: Magnificent view from room.
Desventajas: Few dishes for the buffet. You have to pay for beer
3,8 Regular
Ventajas: Good view.
Desventajas: The resort is a Prince. So I drove a very long way to get there. But from what I saw it just looked like a clapped out resort that had gone bust and another company took it on to their portfolio. Badly needs renovating. Pictures very deceiving.

Ventajas: The hotel surrounding and the staff.
Desventajas: The buffet dinner could have been better.
