The hotel is really nice. It is located in a very quiet and safe area, close to Romexpo. The hotel is also close to the city center in a walking distance and there is a fruit and vegetable market nearby. I felt like being at home there - in the appartment under the roof. It had everything needed and was very clean.
There was no one at the reception during our stay. We only had a phone number to call in case of issues. In our case that was OK since we didn't have any complains or questions.
The rooms were reasonably well appointed with a decent sized kitchen.
We had a very poor experience checking into the hotel. 1. There was no one to meet us, we called the hotel and could hear the phone ringing but no one came for us - we had to call booking.com and eventually someone came to the door. 2. They demanded an extra 36% on top of the confirmed rate through booking.com when we arrived (we had booked the apartment and received confirmation for 3 guests and the confirmation clearly stated that there would be no extra costs) for an "extra bed". Otherwise, they said we can sleep all 3 in the double bed or "you can go stay somewhere else". After spending a while looking for this place and having a short time in Bucharest before having to fly out from nearby Baneasa airport in the early morning, we had no choice but to stay there and pay extra 3. The extra bed turned out to be an extremely uncomfortable sofa bed with a big bulge in the middle (and it is the sofa bed that is in the lounge room!) No idea how they can justify paying for an extra bed that is already there! 4. They did not accept credit card payment even though it clearly states on the confirmation that it did (and so did the stickers on the wall) - apparently the machine was taken away by the owner 5. Even if you could pay by credit card, you would be lumped by an extra 2%-4% fee, and no where is that stated on the confirmation. I average 200 nights away from home (or more) per year and have visited 40+ countries and stayed in every imaginable accommodation type for work & leisure. In my opinion, of these 1000+ stays, this one takes the cake for most blatant disregard for the terms agreed. The only stay that comes close to this was when a hotel in Cambodia tried to reneg on complimentary breakfast (but that is extremely minor, and it was a lot cheaper too). Lest people think this is symptomatic of Romania, the two other apartments we booked through booking.com in Romania were absolutely great - the staff were friendly, and everything was as per the confirmation
Very nice and friendly appartement with fully equipped kitchen
Not that close to the city centre
Modern apartment building close to the centre of Bucharest. Good security. Close to main bus routes and Grivita metro station.
Price information: The rate quoted by Booking.com was 350 euros for 7 nights, incl. Vat. On arrival the payment requested was 350 euros plus vat. To pay by credit card would have incurred a 2% surcharge. I was told that paying cash I would escape vat and 2% surcharge. Payment was requested in advance, which meant I had to search for a bank with an atm that would accept my uk debit card.
Stayed second time and it's the best value for money
Plaza Victorei
