Ventajas: The car didn't break down.

Desventajas: When I picked the car up the man behind the counter wasn't very friendly. He told me he had a ton of cars to pick from to give me and then gave me the car that was parked the absolute furthest from the building. He also gave me a car who's RPM's revved up very high when I wasn't accelerating. I had to down shift to L and then back to D to get it to stop. I had a three and a half hour drive late at night on dark and desolate road to deal with this. As a female traveling alone it's needless to say that I felt less than safe. When I dropped the car off the next day the I told the man behind the counter what had happened and he seemed not to care at all. That might have been because his child was running around the office unattended. I guess there is a reason Hertz is the cheapest. Next time I'll spend a little extra money and not have my trip ruined.

Ventajas: Nothing. No staff was at the desk when our flight arrived. The woman on the 800# was totally unhelpful and told us to come back the next morning. Really? We had to rent with another provider and had to pay a much higher rate.

Desventajas: Have someone at the counter so we can get our car when we arrive. Train your 800# staff to help problem solve for us.

Ventajas: Mt. Pleasant staff was friendly but didn’t offer much help but an apology.

Desventajas: Staff in Wilmington was extremely rude. Put me in a car that had a complete moldy smell. The car was dirty on the interior and exterior. I was denied another car. The only reason I accepted this car was because I had to get to Sputh Carolina.

Ventajas: When the first car's key was not working so they switched vehicles quickly

Desventajas: My first thought with the first car after I got the car open- as none of the buttons on the key worked (including the alarm)- was "jeeze they did not clean out the smoke smell". The second car was worse. They obviously vacuumed the floor but that was it. There was cigarette ash all over the car and as a non smoker the smell was over powering. I wiped everything down and the wipes came out black. This car had obviously not been cleaned. This was my first and last time renting from hertz

Desventajas: I couldn't rent because I don't have a credit card, just a debit. They could have held whatever amount they needed to, but said they couldn't. Because of time restrictions, I couldn't go downtown to rent from that location.

Unwilling to help

Ventajas: Car was nice, clean and picking up and dropping off was very convenient.

Desventajas: After dropping the car off, my return flight was cancelled. I had a rate of $13 dollars a day through Hertz for the car for 5 days. When I returned to Hertz to try and get the car for one additional night as my return flight was not till the next day, Hertz wanted to charge me $50 for one night. Hertz was pretty apathetic to the situation and I will not being using them going forward
