My husband I agree -- this was one of our favorite locations and favorite hotels ever -- and we have traveled a lot! I had booked this one not knowing much about the area, so was a little worried -- but as soon as we arrived, we knew that Semproniano, and Locanda del Pieve, was exactly what we had been hoping for in our 'little Tuscan village' dream. There is something truly magical about the location in this off-the-beaten-track part of Tuscany; and the genuine hospitality of the owners Angela and Enrico is special indeed. Rooms are lovely, simple, individually decorated (by Angela) with an artistic touch, very comfortable, clean, and quiet. Dining room has a rustic sophistication. There is comfortable sitting room, and a lovely porch (too chilly to enjoy when we were there in April.) And the food! The best of our entire two weeks of fantastic food in Italy! Enrico's dinners are not to be missed! (He teaches cooking courses as well.) Incredibly fresh, local meats, cheeses, pastas, vegetables. Four courses, but not too heavy -- we are light eaters and managed to eat every bite. Angela does desserts and the breakfast pastries -- wonderful buffet breakfast is included, with freshly baked pastries (best croissants ever, better than Paris!), homemade preserves, local cheeses, yogurt, fruit, cereal, etc. Semproniano is a lovely untouristed medieval hilltop village, and makes a great home base for exploring nearby Sovana; the Etruscan ruins at the Citta del Tufu Archeologic Park; the dramatic hilltop town of Pitigliano; the thermal baths at Saturnia, and more. Then at the end of a day of exploring, you can return to the peaceful haven of Locanda del Pieve and enjoy another wonderful dinner and bottle of local wine! Semproniano, and Locanda del Pieve, is on the very short list of places we will return to!
