Ventajas: Food is incredible as is the onsen. It snowed several inches the night we arrived so we woke to a peaceful, snow-covered forest. Location is very secluded so if relaxation is not your main goal, look elsewhere.
Ventajas: Location staff view food size of room cleanliness
Ventajas: Dinner was the best during our japan travels, breakfast was semi buffet style and excellent. We had a room with private bath and it was simply great. if you have kids dont forget to visit the Kiso Ponys next door - our daughter loved them. Can highly recommend the property!
Ventajas: The property is quite remote which we loved. The snow and fields around the property created a really tranquil environment. The staff did not speak a lot of English but they tried really hard and were very attentive and helpful always. The rooms were really comfortable and spacious. It felt traditional and modern enough. Tatami floor with a seating area to look out into a very peaceful field of snow with the mountains in a distance. We loved the public bathroom and onsen. The bathroom was very well equipped with toiletries and the indoor and outdoor onsen was really relaxing. It was snowing and sitting in the outdoor onsen felt so good. The samue and hoari they provided for you to wear was very comfortable and warm. We were really impressed. The restaurant served very high quality meals both for dinner and breakfast. We stayed in 3 ryokans during this trip and we were most impressed with Tsutaya Tokinoyado Kazari.
Desventajas: Nothing much not to like really.
Ventajas: Breakfast and dinner were excellent. Room is very clean. Service is great. There are at least 3 staffs who can speak Chinese. Our room has very nice view of Mt. Ontake. Overall, our stay was very comfortable.
Desventajas: No wifi in the room. No shower cap in the bathroom (only available at the onsen). Onsen area should provide towels.
Ventajas: The hotel is beautiful and extremely well designed. It is located in a very beautiful valley with lots of thing you can do or explore. The service is first class and all staffs are friendly. The food was top notch, both breakfast and dinner. This hotel has one of the best onsen that is huge and beautiful, including outdoor onsen. Highly recommended.
Ventajas: Beautiful room, views, trip to kamikochi, Chef Ryota Kusube was incredible (made Michelin level dinner despite a challenging audience- no gluten, mushroom, shrimp etc. )
Ventajas: Nice quiet place with great service. Dinner was amazing and the Onsen was a nice treat. The setting is beautiful but remote. If the weather is nice there are nearby hiking trails.
Ventajas: the onsen was nice!
Ventajas: The location is very peaceful, onsen was great, food at dinner was amazing, and room in the new building was very nice, with good facilities, quiet, comfortable, and I really liked the beautiful traditional gown to wear. Hotel is clean throughout. Staff are very friendly, caring and attentive. Star gazing was good experince.
Desventajas: Out of my two nights booked, only one room appeared on the hotel's system. Hotel staff did try their best to rectify the mistake and gave me a room at the older part of the hotel at reduced cost for the second night, it was difficult to communicate as my Japanese is non existent and English between staff members varied. The older room was less comfortable, much colder, and had a shared bathroom. I would stay again in the new part, but not the old part of hotel.
Ventajas: We stayed at nukumorino-yada for one night. The place was beautiful and extremely peaceful and tranquil. The staff was very courteous and friendly and they welcome you like a friend. Overall it was a very pleasant and wonderful experience. And yes, they organise outing for star gazing if the skies are clear. So I guess the perfect time of the year would be in autumn and winter.
Ventajas: The food was delicious and staff friendly. The star gazing session when weather permits is interesting
Desventajas: The rooms that we stayed in were old
Ventajas: The staff are outstanding - so helpful, courteous, gentle and generous. They were definitely a highlight of staying at this property. The other highlight was the beautiful onsen facilities. Such a beautiful place to relax. We stayed in the 'old building', which was ryokan style and the rooms are slightly dated, but the view of the outside gardens and the hospitality of the staff made up for this.
Desventajas: The stargazing tour was a surprise, but unfortunately, the explanations were only in Japanese on the night we went, so we didn't get much out of it.
Ventajas: I loved the quiet, in the country, location at the head a small side valley 4km from the town of Kiso Fukushima. Plenty of parking and a hotel mini bus to the village if you don't have a car. The staff were exceptionally polite, sensitive, and friendly and many spoke some English. The diner was a 5 star, 6 course extravaganza. They just kept bringing more courses! I could not manage to eat it all but had lots of tastes. The thoughtful touch was that they noticed that I stayed a second night so my diner on day 2 was different from day one, still 6 courses. The Onsen hot pool was very relaxing after a rainy day walking on the Tori pass section of the Nakasendo trail. Great value for money considering the rate includes diner and breakfast and hot pool.
Desventajas: This is a very minor thing but some of the common area passageway carpets were a bit worn and some of the passageway walls could do with a lick of paint.. A shame really as the rest of the experience especially the service was excellent and 5 star.
Ventajas: The location of this ryokan was out of town but a shuttle bus was provided after 3pm on check in day and once checked in we just needed to notify the staff for the bus. We stayed in the cheaper old part of the ryokan which was a bit tied but still good value. The onsen was very good. The ryokan provided a star viewing trip further up the mountain to see beautiful clear skies, weather permitting. The dinner was very good, more than I could eat and my friend said that the breakfast was also good. The staff were very helpful.

Ventajas: The attentive staff were charming and could not do enough for us. The Onsen were lovely. The exquisite and endless food was excellent and beautifully presented. Make sure you have an appetite!
Ventajas: the owners of the hotel were so nice. location is very remote and we had no car but they were kind enough to drive us to town and the train station couple times.
Ventajas: The location is absolutely stunning - you will need your own transport ideally to get there, up a twisting road through the forest to a hotel surrounded by forest and mountains. The views from our room were just beautiful. The owner, who is also the chef, prepared a delicious meal without any notice (booking.com did not offer an option to request dinner) If you want dinner (and you will as there are no restaurants near by and the chef is wonderful) then try to contact in advance. We enjoyed sitting beside the cosy wood burning stove. For breakfast we were surprised(and very happy) to be served scrambled eggs with ham and sausage. If you want peace and serenity after the busy cities this is the place to come. Oh, and the dog is very cute!
Desventajas: The only regret was not being able to spend longer than one night in this idyllic spot.
Ventajas: Amazing view. The owner drove us to the closest station at the end of our stay.
Ventajas: Host was a wonderful cook and went out of his way to see that our stay was pleasurable. He shuttled us to and from the station and took pleasure in doing so. Can't say enough about his generosity.
Ventajas: Cost, good dinner and kind and helpful staff and owner. Nice view of mountains. Good for family Cute, friendly pet dog in small garden sitting area outside too!
Desventajas: Bit far off the beaten track, leaving few options of anything to do in the evening (besides staying in the hotel). Less of an issue for just a one night stay though, which is what we did.
Ventajas: the nature and star
Ventajas: Great host! Very friendly and good cook! Quiet and nice view.
Ventajas: Its secluded & away from the hustle & bustle of Japan. Kato, the owner went out of his way to make our stay a wonderful one. Great for nature lovers who enjoy long walks. Close to an abandoned ski resort which adds to its eerie charm. I can definitely recommend it. Food was great & very cozy communal dining area with wonderful views throughout.
Desventajas: Nothing not to like, loved every minute.
Ventajas: Friendly, helpful and generous staff and owner made our stay great. Although somewhat off the beaten track, the guesthouse’s location among trees at the top of a winding mountain road provided fresh crisp air and fantastic views. Thank you.
Desventajas: Not really a dislike: rather a suggestion. It would’ve helped had we been sent a detailed map (in English) to find the guesthouse when our booking was confirmed.
Ventajas: Beautiful location with a superb garden. The bedding was very comfortable. And the hospitality of the owner was just top-notch. I called ahead to let the owner know that I would be arriving at the train station just after 6pm, so wouldn't be there until after 6:30. He asked if I was OK to make my own way there so I assured him there'd be no problem. In the event, he turned up at the station to pick me up because he was worried the local festival parade would be passing through around the same time. He even took me to see them in action. On top of that, as I was checking-in he asked if I'd like to go watch the festival again later. Unfortunately, as bad as I felt, I had to turn down his offer because I'd had a long day of hiking so needed a shower and the bed.

Ventajas: Near the mountain!
Desventajas: Restaurant was closed! too far from the shop.
Ventajas: Comfortable, spacious rooms. Good facilities - lots of bathrooms, traditional bath house, beautiful grounds. Excellent staff!
Ventajas: Personnel was helpful and friendly. The room was fairly comfortable and the breakfast ok
Desventajas: The place was pretty run down and messy.
Ventajas: This hotel has some pleasant features by comparison to hotels in big Japanese cities: it is more spacious, the bedrooms especially are much bigger than in many hotels. There is a pretty, Japanese style garden and the hotel is nicely landscaped - there is even a kind of pitch and putt course. The onsens are brilliant - spotlessly clean with good facilities, open most of the day and free for hotel guests. The hotel’s location is a small village 2km south of Agematsu which is the nearest railway station. Taxi from station to hotel costs about 1000 yen or it’s about a 30 minute walk. The hotel is right on the Nakasendo trail. The hotel staff are very friendly and speak good English. Food is strictly Japanese.
Desventajas: Eating in the evening is somewhat restrictive - the hotel itself serves dinner but, in my opinion, it was very expensive. However, there are few alternatives nearby. The cafes on the main road near the hotel all seem to close by 5.00 pm and we found only one open restaurant in Agematsu in the evening and that was fully booked! You can use a JR Railpass to find a place to eat in other villages in the valley but beware, if you are not back at the hotel by 10.00 pm, they will lock you out! The reception area of the hotel is the only place you can use WiFi but it is closed at 10.00 pm and the lights turned off. The atmosphere of the hotel is a little staid and quite formal - it is more likely to suit older guests.
Ventajas: This place is amazing. Modern decor. The staff are super friendly and welcoming. The food was awesome.
Ventajas: Super comfortable and great onsen. Love the location-- great for hiking in the hills.
Ventajas: Staff were very helpful. We hadn't booked dinner and it wasn't available at the hotel. They organised a taxi and a table at a nearby pub/restaurant. They had Pale Ale in the vending machine.
Desventajas: Nothing to do in this area. Although we were just passing through there was nothing locally to pass the time in the evening.
Ventajas: It's a very Japanese place, even though the room have a western style. Our room was massive, with two double beds and a table with chairs. The onsen was included in the price and was definitely a great experience, even though one may not be used to the nakedness! The hotel director could speak English, definitely a plus in those areas, and booked us a taxi for the station. They also lent us umbrellas since it was raining and we didn't have them.
Desventajas: No wifi in the room, was pretty annoying. We were supposed to do the nakasendo trail, but it's snowed and rained so we got stuck inside all day! The hotel is pretty far from the town, so nothing to do around there, except for a nice local restaurant.
Ventajas: Staff were very kind and helpful
Desventajas: Did not have shower and a tub in a room
Ventajas: Nice and professional staff, warm reception, and great meal. We also love the onsen (hot spring) very much. It’s a wonderful stay at Nazame Hotel after the Kisoji hiking.
Ventajas: Comfortable and affordable. It’s a nice area and has an onsen. The staff are nice and the location good even in the winter.
Desventajas: WiFi is only available in reception and there is a 10pm curfew.
Ventajas: The room was massive, much bigger than expected. It was very modern and I was suprised that it was so affordable. The bathroom was also of an amazingly high quality. It also had a nice shop that sold local products so I could try some local alcohol and food.
Desventajas: The WiFi was only available in the lobby.

Desventajas: the wifi is only at the lobby.... it was not comfortable for the teenagers....

Ventajas: Traditional breakfast! That means fish! Beautiful presentation and wonderful service.
Desventajas: Considering the price the hotel decor was slightly rough around the edges.
7,0 Muy bueno
Ventajas: Dinner was fab, great food and hospitality. General experience was pleasant.
Desventajas: I think its over charged, we had a small room that transfered to a sleeping room with futons..+ an outdoor hot tub that was real nice .. since most guests werent jp, they could have allow the chice btwn eu breakfast and jp breakfast.... Anyway i dont think it was worth 500$/hb, day
Ventajas: The onsen was quite nice. The breakfast was okay.
Desventajas: To be fair to the property, we made a last minute booking at a cheap rate though booking.com. I always find it odd that hotels will sell off at cheap rates, but are nowhere near capacity and then have guest using the smallest pokiest rooms. We were not given an option of dinner at the hotel and were told we could not do that. I noticed a room service tray outside a nearby room the next morning but we were not offered that as an option either. I asked for recommendations and given the name of a place nearby, but when we turned up there we were told that they didn’t have a table available. We found nearby bar, which was fine. Be strange town too and I am not sure what the hype is about it, but I guess we had been spoilt by Magome and Tsugamo.
Ventajas: The onsen was nice, the breakfast authentic and we really liked the onsen.
Desventajas: There was a really bad smell in the lobby. The room was extremely small for five people. Totaly overpriced. We would not recommend this place.
Ventajas: Staff were nice and welcoming and the traditional dinner and breakfast served was good. Great view from our room overlooking the river.
Desventajas: Location is great and staff were fantastic, dinner and breakfast were good but I would say it's a little over priced, based on other traditional ryokans I have stayed in during the trip.
Ventajas: The room was a good size, but then we had paid for a superior room.
Desventajas: Despite our room being a good size, the bathroom was tiny, and the toilet so small there was barely enough room to stand when shutting the door. Our booking included wine or champagne on arrival, the staff took considerable time, despite being given a copy of the booking, to accept that was correct. The breakfast is aesthetically lovely, but totally inadequate, a selection of minute sized serves of pickled vegetables and a small piece of fish, plus rice. Final insult, on checkout they charged an additional “ bath tax, “ for using the onsen !! She insisted on this for all of us despite my wife not having used it. The amount was negligible, considering the very high room cost, but it only added to the overall feeling the place is grossly overpriced for what it is.

Ventajas: Lovely property in a good location about 1km from the railway station. But it cost a lot and no meals were included - other similar-priced properties in the Kiso Valley include meals for what we paid. I think the higher price was because there was a public bath (the other properties I'm comparing to did not have one of these).
Desventajas: The price.
Ventajas: Stunning property. Boutique quality along the Nakasendo trail. The food was amazing.
