Do not return the car 1 minute late or you will pay BIGVentajas: Easy drop-off at low volume store.Desventajas: Loyal Alamo customer (err...I was). ALWAYS returned vehicles hours before they were due - sometimes up to 12 hours early on long term or when flying. This rental was a one-way on Thanksgiving weekend. We were in traffic 2 hours due to an accident caused by some numb nuts who was pulling a homemade trailer with his 1980-something beater on I75...you know the story. I was 47 minutes late returning the car to a location that had plenty of cars so they were not waiting for mine for another customer. I was charged $34!!!! Pathetic!
They tried to charge me more than reserved price Ventajas: We reserved an economy vehicle, when we arrived they offered us a minivan or a pick up. I had no problem with this, but apparently this messed with our fuel budget. We chose the minivan, plenty of room. Very clean. Drop off was easy. Desventajas: We reserved a economy for a particular price through Kayak.com. When I arrived to get the car, the total price was almost $60 more than what I had reserved online. When I told the representative, he told me I had to produce proof. I am not accustomed to making a purchase and than having to prove myself. Very off putting. I had to have my wife go in once we found the email to get a refund because I was so upset with how I felt like I was being swindled. They gave her the refund, but how many customers unknowingly are charged differently???? I probably will NOT use Alamo again.

Good luck finding thingsVentajas: Paperwork at car desk was reasonably quick even though lines. Staff here was efficient and very pleasant. On line booking was good Desventajas: Signage to get you to car was either non existent on poorly place. Most of the other rental areas had their aisles and car spaces on signs posted by cars. Alamo painted on the ground like you were supposed to know that. All the time I wandered around looking for it two old guys under a tent sat in their chairs and no assitence. Not busy with other customers just no desire to help anyone. So after walking all around I walk back to them ask they point to the ground lettering. Off I went everyone had said yo check for scratches for which there were several so I walk back they tell me to drive it to them which I did while they sat I drive back they keep sitting once I get out out walk over hand them the paperwork then he gets up up comes over marks the 3 locations and goes sit back down. Signage getting in and out of rental car area was very poor. I am a older guy myself but if you are working in customer service means servicing the customers not sitting down doing nothing till a customer hunt s you down. Car return exactly the same maybe those guys are stuffed and just placed in their lawn chairs. I really can't remember when I have had such totally disinterested staff at a retail oriented facility. Totally unbelievable.

Good rentalVentajas: The cars are very clean and newer. We did have an issue with our first car, we were able to get back to the rental area and swap out with no issues. Take the short cab ride to Avis in the Coast Grand Mall, no wait, very polite and we were able to drop off at the airport. Will use Avis again!Desventajas: Unfortunately we had an issue with our first car and had to take time out of our vacation to return to rental area, advisor made process simple which helped a lot.

Great serviceVentajas: The rental agent was concerned that the vehicle we had booked might not be comfortable enough and found a coupon to upgrade us to the next level of vehicle (Ford Taurus). We had a late flight departing and the car was due 6 hours before and he found a way for us to have the car beyond our return time.
Ventajas: Worth going to this AVIS away from the airport taxes!Desventajas: I had booked a compact car that would be equivalent to a Ford Focus....then offered a Kia Rio, which is a sub-compact....so to get a car that can fit my golf clubs I had to pay $5 more per day....that was unexpected.
Not sure why rental cars are always so much more expensive in the US than in other countries (where vehicles cost more to purchase)?

Nice Rental!!Ventajas: The Nissan Sentra had plenty of room and drove well!!Desventajas: The only item I was concerned with was when I filled the gas tank, the fill line in the car did NOT go all the up!! My wife and I did three different tries, but the line never got to FULL. I did bring it to the attention to my drop-off location.
Ventajas: The woman who checked the car out to me was very professional and very helpful. The whole process went very quickly..Desventajas: It was raining very hard when I returned the car and I got drenched returning car. There was no place to park that was close enough to the building to keep us from being completely wet.

Desventajas: When I drop the car off they were unable to process my check due to Jacksonville writing the incorrect mileage down before I left. This caused me to have to go inside the building and see an agent. Once I got in the building I only have one customer in front of me. From what I could gather she was there looking for more information on the entire area of Myrtle Beach from restaurants hotels etc. It took at least 30 minutes for them to figure this all out upon checkout.. I am extremely disappointed with budget overall
Nasty, incompetent assistantDesventajas: We waited in line to pick up our reservation for an hour while two associates sat in the back chatting and eating. There was a problem with our reservation and the associate had no remorse for basically stranding me. When I asked what my options were, she said "I don't know try somewhere else". If it wasn't for another person in line we overheard, a half hour before, who had the same problem and that associate helping him we would have never been able to leave Myrtle Beach. When we arrived at the new Budget location on a whim, and were successful, we retold our story to that clerk and he actually knew which associate we were speaking about, just from the story we told. So Myrtle Beach Airport Budget, you DEFINITELY need to fire the foreign lady with straight thin red/brown hair and eyebrows drawn on so horribly high they look like black rainbows.

Ventajas: Car was new, clean, comfortable and had great gas mileage.Desventajas: We waited in the airport Budget line for the rental car for 1.5hrs which was bad enough but it was even worse that when we finally got to the front desk, we were notified our reservation was for the Budget location at the mall vs the airport. We were advised to take a taxi to the mall. Huge waste of time, more money spent and an inconvenience! When making the intitial reservation, I selected MYR and would not have known the airport address from the mall address. Additionally, the mall was not open on my return date so I had to pay extra money to return the car to the airport. Overall, the rental process was a very frustrating and somewhat unpleasant experience.

Even the customer service was badDesventajas: I reserved my car online the day before and had confirmation. I Traveled from Nj to Sc with my toddler, car seat, stroller, and luggage. I got to budget to pick up my car they did not have any cars available and there was 'nothing that they could do"
I spoke with management and they said 'sorry' . We had to wait in the airport for FOUR HOURS BEFORE family from NC got there. Budget will never hear from me again and I will continue to share this story from hell
Really disappointed!Desventajas: Budget refused to rent me the car I reserved through KAYAK. I did not have a return ticket therefore I could not use a debit card. I do not have a credit card. Kayak should have told me that if idle one way I would not be allowed to rent a car without a credit card.
AwfulVentajas: Nothing!Desventajas: The car was not ready when I asked it to be and they asked me to come hours later. I accommodated and then the car they gave me smelled awful, reeked!! I asked for a freshener, the atenednant said she didn't have one... then I tried to drive off, reverse wasn't working properly. The mechanic on scene said I was driving the car improperly -/ what??? I'm 30... I know how to put a car in reverse. Then I started driving and the transmission was having issues, the car would not switch gears even after reaching 6 or 7... I went back again. The mechanic said I was driving the car wrong, then I urged him to take a ride with me. Then he was like "oh, actually you're right.." are you kidding me???? I demanded I get a new car, the attendant just shrugged said sorry. I called corporate two of your phone attendants just hung up on me after I asked for a supervisor because they were giving me no help. I finally got a car because a lady dropped hers off and saw how distressed I was. She told me to demand to take hers. So I took her dirty car..... horrifically bad experience.

Compact minivan?Ventajas: Car was clean and drop-off in Charleston was quick and easy!Desventajas: Requested a compact car and was given a minivan. They didn't even bother to tell me, I just walked to the spot and there it was in all of its glory. I had heard them trying to pass it off to a prior customer saying it was their only option, but they didn't even bother to tell me. Pickup was very slow and understaffed - it took almost an hour to get through 10 people.
Desventajas: On pickup we had to wait 1 hour inline to the desk. And then another 1 hour wait for a car because they weren't washed. Returning the car there was no one in the lot to accept it had to go back to the office. The only saving grace was we received a nice car that was pleasant to drive
Timing makes a big difference!Ventajas: The car was ready and available. Desventajas: How long I had to wait for customer service! Dollar has only one person at the time of my arrival and NO ONE else to accommodate the customers that waited in line for 30 minutes or more.

Kia Rio lacked cruise controlVentajas: Our car, although it had controls for cruise control, did not have this feature installed. For as much driving as we did (from Myrtle Beach to Columbia and back), this was a pain. Good gas mileage, but next time I'll upgrade to something that feels more secure on the highway. It would be nice for them to include a highway map in the glove compartment.Desventajas: Lack of Cruise Control.
Above and beyondVentajas: They checked us in and saw that we had 2 kids with car seats and strollers and they upgraded us for free to a larger vehicle. I dont know if we would have fit in the smaller one! Saved our trip!Desventajas: Nothing! Great service at excellent rates!

MisleadingVentajas: Saved a lot of money, friendly staff, clean, very nice carDesventajas: It was misleading renting through Kayak. I had searched specifically for airport rentals but when I arrived at the Hertz counter, I was told the location I actually rented from was 2 miles away and had to get a taxi. HOWEVER, by renting outside of the airport, it saved me between $50-100 even with the taxi. Car rentals at the airport cost a lot more due to airport fees.

Drop off JokeDesventajas: I had to drop it off at 4 am, in which they were closed. I understand that. but the airport was 2 to 3 miles away. They would not let me drop it at Hertz at the airport. They said they would charge me an additional $250.00 if I did. Never will I ever rent from them again.
Ventajas: Car comfort was good.Desventajas: There was a very strong odor within the car that made my girl friend nauseous. Possibly cleaning chemicals? The insides of all the windows were bleary with a heavy film of some sort making it difficult to drive at night until I could procure some napkins and clean off viewing "holes".

However, they either had a 3 category upgrade or a 1 category downgrade. we took the down grade, better gas mileage and they included a fuel package. Gentleman at check in was very nice and professional.Desventajas: The car had sticky residue by the handles like the doors had been taped shut with duct tape. when we tried to use the window wash, it was empty.

When I arrived there, they were not friendly. This was odd,
as everyone in the South is friendly. Then my GPS would not
work in the cig lighter. Another employee tried to get me to pay for their GPS. I did not wish to pay for six days of use, which is why I brought my own. I suggested another car,but then he found a different place to plug the GPS in. I felt
like the "battle of the wills". I have used three other car rental places at the same airport in the past year and have not had any problems.

Okay PlaceVentajas: Getting the car went quickly.Desventajas: Dropping off waited in line behind someone with a problem. Clearly you could see I was dropping a car off. Took around 15 minutes before I walked out and placed the keys in the drop box. And regardless if there's a counter in the airport--and maybe there's no way to do this--but you need a shuttle to the location from the airport.

Great rental, poor serviceVentajas: Rental itself was great, clean, ran great. Great rental.Desventajas: On pick-up, they said I had booked the wrong location even though my reservation was for the correct location, which I showed them. The person ahead of me in line had the same problem. Also, when I dropped off the rental they tried to charge a weekly rate even though I had spoken with the agent at pick up about converting it back over to a daily rate after the rental was up (which was reflected in my contract). Although a manager corrected the problem after I showed her proof, the initial agent was incompetent and did not know what he was doing. The manager had to show him twice. Also, the parking attendant was rude at drop off until he realized that I was correct. Would probably not use national through kayak again- too much of a hassle when you are traveling!

Sent to the WRONG AirportVentajas: I like that I got a free upgrade and a reduced rate from the woman working the desk at Myrtle Beach International Airport. I presented her with my paperwork and the airport was the WRONG airport in Myrtle Beach (the private airport - Not MYR which is the airport code for the International Airport). The whole booking had to be cancelled, the insurance had to be cancelled and everything had to be rebooked.Desventajas: That the airport code for Myrtle Beach (MYR) is the incorrect booking code to get a car rental! Who came up with that idea?!

Forced us to upgrade by offering a pickup truckVentajas: I thought I had reserved a midsize car, but Thrifty gave us the manager's special, which was an enormous F150 pickup truck. We ended up paying almost double the price of our reservation to get a normal car. Desventajas: Line took forever to get through. Brand new car had its mirror knocked off. We had to wait again to report the preexisting damage. No one was readily available when we returned the car, so we had to wait again until an agent looked up. They wouldn't add a spouse as an extra driver at no cost (despite us paying twice as much for the "upgrade"), until I later made an offhand mention of AAA. I wasn't impressed.
Hidden feesVentajas: Clean car, easy drop offDesventajas: Said they had to run a soft credit check since I had a debit card and that I would be charged an extra $15 or so a day for using one. Equifax supposedly wouldn't cooperate (though my credit score is excellent), and they put it on me to call them and resolve. Screw that. Ended up using my friend's card but she wasn't 25 so we had to pay even more. Will never use Thrifty again
