Formerly called Montreal-Dorval International Airport, Montreal's only passenger airport serves over 11 million passengers every year. Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is approximately twelve miles west of downtown Montreal. Following the slow demise of Mirabel Airport (now used for cargo flights only), Montreal-Dorval International Airport was renamed and renovated to meet the needs of millions of passengers. Montreal is the largest hub in eastern Canada for international flights.

More than forty airlines fly from Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport. The largest companies on that list include Air Canada, Air France, American Airlines, British Airways, Continental, Delta, United, and U.S. Airways. Those choosing to fly from Montreal need to be aware that the airport is a non-smoking establishment. Therefore, smoking is not allowed inside the airport and also outside on the curb. Smokers may want to carry some nicotine gum because there are no smoking areas on the grounds.

The newly renovated airport offers numerous Wi-Fi stations and Wi-Fi is found throughout the airport for those carrying their own laptops. New moms will appreciate the Breast Feeding Lounge that provides a calm environment for both mother and baby, including stations for warming bottles, sinks, comfortable seating, and changing tables. The renovations have been made keeping everyone's comfort in mind.

To make things easy for passengers, the airport is broken into international and domestic areas, only those on international flights may go into the international terminal and vice versa. The building layout with just four terminals makes it a snap for passengers to find their gate.

Travel into Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is easy and well marked so there should be no problems finding the airport. Once inside, the airport lanes are also well marked making it simple for passengers to find where they need to be.

Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport

Montreal's only passenger airport contains one building, all on one level, with fingers that branch from the main building creating four divisions-two are international and two are domestic. In essence, Montreal Pierre Elliott Trudeau International Airport is odd in shape, but the layout works well. Separate arrival and departure areas are also found within the airport

Domestic Flight Terminal (Arrivals)

As a person faces the airport from the parking lots, the domestic arrivals are located to the right before the main building branches out into two fingers forming the gates for all domestic flights. Passengers and their family and friend first enter the building into the public area and then only passengers are allowed into the arrivals area which is beyond security checkpoints.

Domestic Flight Terminal/A Gates (Departures)

To the right of the main building are the two wings that house the gates for all domestic flights. The first wing (south) serves Gates 1 through 15. The second wing (north) serves Gates 17 through 35 and gates 47, 48, and 49. Airlines served in this wing include Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz, Air Creebec, Air Georgian, Air Inuit, Air Labrador, First Air, Porter Airlines, Provincial Airlines, Sunwing Airlines, and WestJet. Access to these gates is found by following the signs for the "A" Gates.

International & Transborder Flight Terminals (Arrivals)

All international arrivals are routed through the left side of the main building. The room to the north is for all international arrivals. A separate area is for Transborder (flights to the United States) and sits below the international arrivals. Though flights from the United States are considered international flights, the airport does separate them for now. Once the passport law for crossing the United States border comes into effect, this may change.

International & Transborder Flight Terminals/B and C Gates (Departures)

Gates B and C make up the International and Transborder departure areas. The lower finger, C Gates, house the area for transborder flights. Only flights heading into the United States depart from this area. Gates 72 to 89 serve passengers flying into the United States. Transborder airlines include Air Canada, Air Canada Jazz, Air Transat, American Airlines, American Eagle, CanJet, Continental Airlines, Continental Express, Delta Airlines, Delta Connection, Miami Air, Northwest Airlines, Northwest Airlink, Sunwing Airlines, United Airlines, United Express, US Airways, US Airways Express, and WestJet.

The B Gates house all of the airline gates for international flights (to all other countries in the world). This wing sits to the north of the C Gates and is easily accessible through a passage from the main terminal. Gates 50 and 51 serve international flights but may serve a domestic flight during peak travel times. Gates 52 through 61 serve international flights only. In peak flying seasons, Gates 56, 58, and 60 may also cover transborder flights. Airlines served by the international gates include Air Canada, Air France, Air Saint-Pierre, Air Transat, British Airways, CanJet, Corsairfly, Czech Airlines, Cubana de Aviacion, EgyptAir, JetX Airlines, KLM, Lufthansa, Mexicana, Olympic Airlines, Royal Air Maroc, Royal Jordanian, Sata International, Skyservice, Sunwing Airlines, Swiss International Air Lines, Thomas Cook Airlines, Transaero, WestJet, and Zoom Airlines.
