The biggest city in Wales is still small in comparison to the major metropolitan areas of neighboring England, but Cardiff is in the process of transforming itself into a dynamic, cosmopolitan urban center. Cardiff is a good base for visiting the attractions of South Wales, most of which are located in rural areas. Cardiff boasts pleasant avenues for walking, a sizable shopping district, and a range of historical and cultural museums. The city's most visited attraction is probably Cardiff Castle, located in the city center, but the newly redeveloped waterfront district is also gaining prominence as a destination for eating out, sailing, and listening to live music.
